One, Two Punch at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, Ohio (May 6, 2018) –Actually, it was a two, one punch weekend for Park Place Motorsports but finishing the weekend with a win is a perfect end regardless of title.

David Kolkmann finished Race Two at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on top of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama podium. Kolkmann topped his second-place finish from yesterday’s Race One and joined Trenton Estep as one of two drivers with two wins to their name this season.

Kolkmann began Race Two from second-place after laying down a fast lap of 1:25.409 in Race One. He wasn’t interested in holding down second for long as he made the pass to lead on lap one in Turn 4. Kolkmann never gave up the lead after obtaining the position.

Estep of JDX Racing kept Kolkmann on his toes for the entirety of the 45-minute sprint. Estep made contact with the back of the No. 71 Eucon Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of while reminding Kolkmann he was ready to pounce. Kolkmann stayed cool under the collar while pushing lap after lap to stay ahead, turning a fast lap time of 1:24.294.

Kolkmann never cracked. He kept Estep behind, finishing the race with over a one-second gap to second place.

“I think we had a good competition it wasn’t really a defensive race as much as maybe it seemed,” Kolkman said. “We were pretty close on the pace. In the last couple of minutes, I think we actually were a little bit stronger. I was able to run fast and consistent laps. It was a wonderful race. Happy to be back on the podium, Park Place gave me the car to win.”

Team Principal Patrick Lindsey watched his rising star from Germany with IMSA.tv. While he commended the coverage, he admitted he rather would have seen it live from the comfort of his timing stand.

“That was a seriously impressive drive,” Lindsey said. “I was sweating bullets at the start because I knew he could get the lead if he got on it right away. Congratulations to him and the team on a great race today, they did me proud. David did great. An awesome start was followed by killer consistency. He held on through a really tight race. Thank you to Park Place and the guys for holding down the fort this weekend, phenomenal job.”

Kolkmann and Park Place Motorsports take a short summer break before the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama heats back up in late June. Kolkmann will be busy with testing in the United States while driver coaching in Germany. Round 7 and round 8 will take place June 28 to July 1 in Watkins Glen, New York, at Watkins Glen International for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen weekend.
